Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have certain types of health care coverage or who are not using certain types of health care coverage an estimate of their bill for health care items and services before those items or services are provided.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any health care items or services upon request or when scheduling such items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • If you schedule a health care item or service at least 3 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 1 business day after scheduling. If you schedule a health care item or service at least 10 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after scheduling. You can also ask any health care provider or facility for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you do, make sure the health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after you ask.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more for any provider or facility than your Good Faith Estimate from that provider or facility, you can dispute the bill.

Prepare your “set and setting”

Choose a space that’s:

  • Quiet, private, and comfortable (couch/recliner)
  • Low stimulation (dim lighting, minimal noise)
  • Warm (blanket available)

Recommended items

  • Water bottle
  • Light snack for afterward
  • Blanket, pillow
  • Eye mask (optional)
  • Headphones + a calm playlist (instrumental/ambient tends to work best)

Home logistics

  • Keep pets and children out of the treatment area during the session
  • Please have a clear table or area for provider to prepare medical equipment
  • Make sure you have a clear path to the bathroom
  • If you live in an apartment/gated building, plan how to let the nurse in

Eating + drinking

  • Have a light meal 2–3 hours before your appointment
  • Avoid heavy/fatty meals right before the session
  • Stay normally hydrated (don’t overdo it)

Medications

  • Take any existing medications you have as usual unless, your clinician specifically instructs you to hold something.
    • Some medications (especially sedatives/anxiety meds) can affect the experience—follow your clinician’s plan.
  • Remove the ketamine vials from the freezer around 15 minutes prior the start of your session.
  • Take any anti-nausea medication as prescribed by your Nomad clinician.

Clothing

  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing with sleeves that can roll up easily.

Safety rules

  • No driving, cycling, or operating machinery for 8 hours afterwards (plan for the rest of the day and into the next morning as needed).
  • Don’t schedule work calls, solo child care duties, or stressful obligations for the remainder of the day.

Safety check + setup

Your RN will:

  • Confirm identity and review key safety questions. (please have a photo ID available)

  • Check baseline vitals (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation) and mental status

  • Set up monitoring equipment

  • Review the plan for comfort and communication

During the session

  • Your Nomad Nurse will give you an intramuscular injection, most commonly in the upper arm. Patients usually begin feeling the effects within 3-5 minutes

  • You’ll be monitored throughout the session with periodic vitals checks.

  • You may experience dissociation, changes in perception, emotional release, or a dreamlike state.

  • Common temporary side effects can include nausea, dizziness, headache, or anxiety. Your RN is trained to support you.

  • Effects typically fade within 20-30 minutes.

After the session

  • You’ll remain under observation until vitals are stable and you’re safe to transition to rest.

  • Your RN will give you discharge guidance and instructions.

  • Typically the entire session will last between 60-90 minutes.

Same day

  • Rest. Keep stimulation low.

  • Drink water; eat something light when you feel ready.

  • Avoid alcohol and recreational substances.

  • Avoid major decisions, stressful situations, and social media spirals.

Sleep + next day

  • Prioritize sleep.

  • If you feel “tender” emotionally, that can be normal—plan gentle time.

Integration

If you’re doing ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, plan an integration therapy session within ~24–72 hours when possible. Journaling right after can also help capture insights.

Nomad clinicians do not handle, transport, or dispose of medication on behalf of patients. The only time a Nomad RN will handle a patient’s medication is at the time of administration.

Nomad typically prescribes two to four sessions worth of medication. If you have a follow up medication session scheduled, and your current medication is to be used in that session, please securely store according to instructions included with the medication.

If this is your last medication session, or the last session with the current prescription, you are responsible for the safe disposal of any unused medication.

More information about ways to safely dispose of unused medication can be found here.
